Participant Advisory Board

The volunteer Participant Advisory Board (PAB) was created to represent and include participating volunteer's ideas and goals in the planning, recruitment, implementation, evaluation and dissemination of clinical research studies of GHUCCTS. The mission of the PAB is to advance equity, safety and excellence in scientific research through outreach to a multicultural community and the inclusion of the volunteer participant's voice.

GHUCCTS Participant Advisory Board

Our PAB members bring their own unique perspective as clinical trial participants to the table as we discuss research methods, recruitment, and the importance of community engagement in clinical trials.

  • Determined name and selected content for the GHUCCTS Recruitment Core website: www.WePartner4Research.org
  • Identified language diversity as a high priority area and recommended translating website content to Spanish.
  • Developed the mission and vision statement of the board.
  • Provided feedback on the "Community Outreach for Participant Recruitment & Community Engaged Research". Presentation was revised based on feedback and successfully presented at a local community event.
  • Provided feedback on feasibility of recruitment strategies through the "Recruitment Studio" consultation session for 14 studies and 15 “Research 101” sessions.
  • Attended the NCATS Day 2018 meeting held at the National Institutes of Health and served as a panelist on the “Engaging Patients and Communities for Smarter Science”.  
  • Participated in a focus group to provide feedback regarding effective strategies for engaging African American community in research.
  • Exhibited at the Aware for All event, hosted by the Center for Information & Study on Clinical Research Participation (CISCRP) and shared information about GHUCCTS current research studies and resources.
  • Reviewed the proposal submission for the GHUCCTS Pilot Grant program funding mechanism where community engagement was designated as a priority area and assessed evaluation criterion from a patient engagement lens.
  • Developed PAB promotional videos to highlight the role and significance of the board. Videos were vetted by the GHUCCTS Steering Committee, Community Advisory Board and PAB in support of final product.

News: Giving a Voice to Research Participants and Their Caregivers

A new effort by GHUCCTS will help those participating in research studies and their caretakers learn about the clinical research process, offer feedback on participant recruitment strategies and ultimately serve as ambassadors for research in their communities.
